Bacon Sausage Alfredo Pizza

October 15, 2014 by Anna 8 Comments

Bacon, sausage, and sweatpants.

Bacon Sausage Alfredo Pizza

Two of those things are acceptable for men to like, one not as much.

Any guesses on what we’re talking about?

You got it – men and sweatpants.

Let me state at the outset that I love my husband dearly, and I get the desire for comfort and coziness, I do. At least, I get that at 8:00 pm on a Saturday night in. But pretty much any other time…WHY with the sweatpants? This is a negative side effect to coaching a sport – every year they get new gear, and every year, this means new sweatpants. WHY, I say. New gear should be strong, leak-proof water bottles, new socks, deodorant, athletic shoes, oh I don’t know, something useful that we’d actually have to buy anyway?

But noooo, still with the sweatpants.

Carl and I have been married for what, 8ish years?  That’s 8ish years of either playing or coaching volleyball and, you guessed it, 8ish pairs of sweatpants, good quality ones that just won’t die, dang it.  Do you think he’ll get suspicious if I tell him we have moths, moths that only eat holes in old sweatpants?

Oy vey.

If he was my size I might complain less, because girls in sweatpants? Totally cute, right. ;)

But for those cozy fall Saturday nights in, when sweatpants are totally acceptable as we listen to the rain pound on the deck cover or settle in for a family movie night, this is the perfect pizza. Homemade pizza is one of our very favourite things, one thing every member of our family can agree is an excellent dinner. To me, homemade pizza is comfort food, and this version is one of the many favourites in our rotation. It is one of the only ways I will eat sausage, and I will eat it gladly.

This is kind of like breakfast for dinner, but better.  It’s dinner that’s awesome for breakfast. As soon as you start cooking the toppings, you know it’s gonna be good, and believe me, you’re right.

Make it as fancy or simple as you like with additional toppings, and I highly recommend making an extra one just to ensure leftovers. I wish I had more and better pictures to share today, but my family realllly hates to wait for their pizza. Quite frankly, so do I. Let’s eat!

Author: Anna Nienhuis {hiddenponies.com}
Recipe type: Pizza; Entree
Serves: 4
Ingredients
  • 1 large pizza crust, homemade or store-bought
  • 3-4 smokies, any casings removed, chopped
  • 8 strips bacon, chopped
  • 4 roma tomatoes, diced
  • Any other toppings you like, diced (mushrooms, peppers, onions, etc.)
  • 2 tsp dried Italian seasoning
  • ⅓ cup (approx) alfredo sauce (I like Classico)
  • Monterey Jack or Mozzarella cheese (about 3 cups)
Instructions
  1. Saute chopped smokies and bacon until cooked and bacon is slightly crisp. Drain fat, then add tomatoes and any other toppings you like. Stir in Italian seasoning and cook for 3-4 minutes to soften veggies. Taste and add salt and pepper if desired. Use immediately or let cool, transfer to bowl, cover and refrigerate until ready to make pizza.
  2. For pizza, preheat oven to 400 degrees Fahrenheit (or follow directions for your crust). Spread a thin layer of alfredo sauce evenly over the crust. Sprinkle with about half your cheese, then all the topping mixture. Top with remaining cheese.
  3. Bake for 10-15 minutes, until crust is golden and cheese is bubbling. Enjoy!

Bahaha…. Thanks for the giggle, sweat pants…. Nope! Don’t get it! They are not flattering on anyone. Although I am lucky cause my guys pants are only a little big on me, so I get to be a total dork right along with him. :)
All hale the pig, what an amazing topper for pizza. Its lunch time so I am soooo hungry, wonder if the kitchen will whip me up a pizza now. :) Happy Friday, and have a wonderful weekend too.

There’s definitely a time and place for sweats, I guess :) Hope you have a great weekend too!

This pizza looks delicious! Sweat pants, yeah. My youngest daughter started calling them sweaty pants. Now my husband calls them sweaty pants, too. It’s much cuter when Tessa says it about her pants than when he does for his own.

LOL, I can see how that would be super cute from a kid, not so much from a grown man :) Thanks for the laugh!
