Mason Jar Display Wall – Take 2

September 7, 2012 by Anna 10 Comments

Remember when I thought it would be such a good idea to plant my herbs in mason jars and hang them on my walls?

Yeah.

I should’ve realized that you don’t put some things where the sun don’t shine and expect them to thrive.

Long story short, the herbs moved to my kitchen windowsill, where I still managed to kill all of them but the basil and mint.  But now I had two old wooden planks screwed into my wall, and I still loved the idea of a wall display of mason jars doing something useful.

So, CRAFT JARS!

Still so useful, not to mention colourful and easy to change up!  Now I can avoid sorting through tippy piles of feathers and flower petals and unearthing various mishmashed supplies when it’s craft time.  My teeny craft bucket has become manageably organized with glue, paint, and stickers, and the bigger paper plates and paper have a new cupboard slot.  This is not to say I’m now perfect at maintaining daily craft time on the days I’m home (hellloooo, naptime), but we’re getting a lot better at it.  Sewing errant buttons back on also no longer requires a full scale house hunt to find the appropriate coloured thread and a needle.

You may remember that this wall is the main wall in my playroom, so it’s a perfect spot for this colourful assortment of random things!

So I’ve done the research and can tell you with confidence: stick your pipe cleaners, pom poms, and other paraphernalia where the sun don’t shine.  They do much better there than plants :)

Fun idea, even if it didn’t actually work out too well. I totally laughed at your comment about them needing sunlight. I’ve been known to move a plant around the kitchen without even considering that need.

Just getting caught up on a lot of older posts. Your cars cupcakes turned out adorably as well!!

I love this idea! My husband is in the process of finishing up my craft room, and I think I’m going to need this crafty little mason jar wall in my room. Too bad the herbs didn’t thrive; it was such a good idea.

I know…I still think the herbs might have worked in a sunnier location, and maybe with bigger rocks at the bottom for drainage. Mind you, given my gardening ability, there might not have been any saving them :)

I was going to try this out but was worried I’d just kill the plants. I’m good with outdoor ones but not indoor ones. Go figure. Looks cute with craft stuff in it. Very cute.

I’m reading this in the staff room and getting funny looks for chuckling aloud about sticking pompoms and pipe cleaners where the sun don’t shine :)

I was trying not to laugh hard about the place where the sun don’t shine, but Kim’s comment made me LOL!! Still, love the creativity! And I actually need containers for pom poms and such. Have a great weekend! xo

Still a very cute idea. I am going to remember that for when baby gets older!

I am going to pin that in my baby ideas box.
