Things I learned in school today

March 10, 2011 by Anna 6 Comments

1) Monkeys have insight

I think this is pretty interesting…not sure I’d call it insight, but that monkey is definitely doing some thinking!

2) “Groupthink” is dangerous but can be funny

3) I always use the handicapped stall

The handicapped bathroom stall is NOT, unlike handicapped parking spaces, only for handicapped people.  I think the common misperception is that this is the case, as I always get some dirty looks when I head for the handicapped stall in a row of empty stalls.

That stall is there so that there is a bathroom area large enough to accommodate a wheelchair if necessary.  It is NOT there so handicapped people will never have to wait in line to use the bathroom.  I like the roominess, and the fact that the door swings open outwards, and they are usually the cleanest since no one is using them except the handicapped people and the moms with strollers, who wipe things down since they know their kids will touch everything they can reach.

Perhaps I shouldn’t share this with you or I may see a decline in the cleanliness standards I have come to expect from handicapped stalls…but really, I’m not taking their parking spaces, which is definitely tempting when you’ve forgotten your stroller and face lugging 35 pounds per arm into a far off store, so enough with the dirty looks already, they will have no effect on me.

4) End on a positive note.

Ok, this has nothing to do with what I did at school today, but this video just cracks me up.  I love watching other people laugh, and know this feeling oh-too-well of being unable to compose yourself at a crucial time no matter how hard you try.

Oh yay, I discovered a post that i missed! Extra smiles thanks to Anna :) And i LOVE that you posted about the handicapped stalls! I am of the VERY same mindset as you. It’s utterly ridiculous for them to stand empty when there are people with full bladders and a desire for a tiny bit of extra space. And I’m loving Sarah’s comment about the ramps and auto door openers… Also, I think I’ll glare at the next non-handicapped person I see using an elevator. Just for fun.

Haha. I always feel like I should feel guilty using those big stalls and I remember having that exact same thought: that the point of the stalls wasn’t so they’d never have to wait in line.

YAY for you for using the handicapped toilet!!!! I am totally there with you on that! Over here the actual handicapped toilet is totally separate than the regular toilet…. and I would always… and still do…. go in there with all my kids…. When you have boys and girls… it is far easier to use one toilet and actually keep an eye on the kids (there are some creeps out there!!:( ) SO…. definately a HANDICAPPED TOILET user!!!!

LOL, you are hilarious, Anna! I will also admit to using the handicapped stall and ESEPCIALLY when I have Chase in a stroller. No shame in it!! ;)

If you weren’s supposed to use the handicapped stalls then you shouldn’t be allowed to use the ramp with a stroller and should use the stairs and carry the stroller and should not push the automatic door opener but try to hold the door and then get the stroller in anyway. As a mother with a stroller…we are ‘handicapped’. Even without a stroller it’s pretty much the only bathroom that you can hang your coat and purse in without feeling like they’ll fall on top of you. Go for it! I’ll wait and go next. :-)
