Monday Moments: Three

December 23, 2019 by Anna 1 Comment

Before we can talk about Christmas, we need to talk about Jack!

This easygoing blondie turned 3 this weekend and couldn’t have been happier about it. His cake even got a kiss :)

I love this age…he’s talking a mile a minute, developing interests of his own, knows his alphabet and a hundred songs, and is doing his best to keep up with his big brothers and sister. But this isn’t my first rodeo, and I know he’s also developing strong opinions of his own about what he wants to do, when he wants to do it, and who he is willing to do it with. Choosing battles with a 3-year-old is a delicate art. See below re: how to sit on furniture.

Jack probably spends as much time upside down in a day as he does right side up. I started off with rules about being upside down on the furniture, but he honestly can’t seem to help himself – the second his body hits a couch, it flips! I’ve kinda gotten used to having conversations with this version of him.

But occasionally I still get conversations like this…

Which shows his other favourite thing I’ve chosen to let slide: bathing suits. He wears a bathing suit as often as I’ll let him, perpetually ready for a trip to the pool he loves so much, and sometimes I don’t even notice until we get to the park.

His coordination is better than mine by far, and he gives me heart palpitations with how high he climbs at the park, and how many steps he thinks it’s safe to skip when leaping to the bottom of a flight of stairs. Once he saw Carl pause for an impromptu stretch, and scrambled to this perch in seconds like a regular mountain climber. He was quite pleased.

He is incredibly snuggly, and loves to hold and pat our faces, or climb in for morning snuggles in our bed. If he sees us hugging, he wants to be sandwiched in between, and he still loves to sit on my lap or as close as possible for stories or shows. He may be three, but he’s doing a pretty great job of being our baby ;)

We love you, Jack-Jack!
