We’re hoooome, napped, unpacked, and I have some theeeengs to talk to you about today! All of which require exclamation points! Brace yourselves.
First, on Monday the blog is goin’ dowwwwn.
Not permanently, but for a few days while my designer and I polish, perfect, enhance, and generally make this a more beautiful, more user-friendly place for you to visit! We’re talking cleaned up sidebars, easy recipe searching, gorgeous colours, and you guuuuys, the header. It’s so pretty! If it were an outfit, it would look something like this:
I can hardly wait for the big reveal, hopefully by late next week. I am the worst client, all “Give me white space!” and “Make it colourful!”, but I know we’ll get it just right :) For now, print out the recipes you need handy because they will be unaccessible until we’re back live.
Second, since I’m temporarily abandoning you to internet silence, I have somewhere for you to head in the meantime. You need to check out my friend Kristen’s blog, not just because I have some fabulous mixed berry muffins featured over there that you’ll want to snag the recipe for. It’s a brand new lifestyle blog I’m so excited to be a part of, with various voices and subjects, all to bring professional Christian women together and make the internet work in it’s best possible way: community building.
Which brings me to THIRDLY. See, so many things! And I saved the very best for last…
Carl and I are excited to be expecting the arrival of baby #4, Lord willing, this August! I’m about 19 weeks along, but only just got to hear the heartbeat 2 days ago since we found out just before leaving for Ontario, where we were far from our doctor. I am feeling verrrry vault-like for managing to keep this a secret from you all for so very long. Here you thought I was a chronic oversharer, but little did you know I am actually rather shy and a fantastic secret keeper :)
Since I’m sure you’re dying to know, here are some fun facts ;) Any other questions? Fire away!
Any cravings? Not really…I’m more of a pregnancy-aversion kinda gal. I love Subway buffalo chicken subs when I’m pregnant, and chocolate, but really, I love those always and pregnancy is just an excuse to make it happen more often :) Currently I’m hating caesar salad, ham, broccoli, bacon, and several other things I normally love, which made me a super fun house guest at my parents’ house and makes me a useless grocery shopper now that I’m home.
Speaking of which, my parents. You guys, staying with your parents for the first trimester of pregnancy is highly recommended. I think I cooked about 10 meals in the whole 3 months, and most of those were in Ottawa when my mom wasn’t there. THANK YOU, Mom. I have spent so much less time with the toilet bowl than in previous pregnancies thanks to you, and definitely also took more naps than any normal mother of three would get away with. So thankful.
How have I kept blogging, you wonder? Well, let me assure that the worst part about being a food blogger while pregnant is, you guessed it, the FOOD. I helped my mom decide what we should have for dinner in non-nauseous moments, and she generously let me photograph her work more than once. Now I’m past the first trimester I’m feeling a million times better.
When I went to the doctor, he got his little note from the nurse and looked at it and said…”Oh, negative?” By which I thought he meant my blood type, so I responded, “I have no idea.” To which he responded, “Did a home pregnancy test say positive?” To which I responded with a blank look. It never occurred to me to mention to the nurse how far along I was, or that they might actually do a pregnancy test, which apparently only works early on, before the placenta takes over the hormonal control?! You learn something new every day.
HANNYways, yes, the doctor informed me kindly that I was, in fact, not pregnant, to which I responded, “Well, then there is something else wrong.” Which made him laugh, once I explained the circumstances and he explained the limitations of pregnancy tests and we all had a good chuckle and listened to a beautiful strong little heartbeat from what we had thought for a brief confused moment was a wiggly stomach tumour.
So yes, I think that’s it for today! To recap, print your favourite recipes before blog silence next week, check out a new blog, and send me baby names that aren’t too crazy and aren’t too trendy and are generally just perfect :) Have a great weekend and week!!

Congratulations on the pregnancy! How exciting! And congratulations on the upcoming new blog design too. As one who is going through the same process at the moment (the blog design that is, not the pregnancy) I can totally understand the excitement! I can hardly wait for it all to be finished….

You’re very welcome Anna…although I don’t think you had as many naps as you could have used. You are most welcome to stay anytime. We will miss you all.

CONGRATULATIONS (again)! So excited for this news. And for the baby too…. I’m kidding, I’m kidding :) Heading over to baby generator websites now. Brace yourself. :)
In all seriousness — congratulations to you and Carl and the kids! And thank you for posting on my little corner of the internet during a craaaaazy couple of weeks. Can’t wait to do it again, although hopefully with a little less crazy. :)

And by baby generator I mean baby NAME generator. LOL.
