There are times I realize how amazing the people in my life are.
Times like when I went to visit Anna at the paint store because I simply needed to repaint one of the main colours in my house. Yes, I painted it 4 months ago. And yes, the colours were, well, more than a little similar, but it was driving me craaazy since I’d seen a different colour on someone else’s walls.
You see, my current main room, kitchen and eating area were all blue.
Buuut once I saw thiiiis colour on someone else’s walls, I knew I had to have it.
My reasoning? I wanted to accent in turquoise, but currently would have to accent with blue. (Now the colours don’t do any justice on the screen, but for those of you paint people out there, it WAS Benjamin Moore’s Harbor Haze, and it is NOW Woodlawn Blue.) A more bluey – blue green, to a more greenish – blue green. (And yes, those are the technical terms).
And you know what? Anna said nothing about craziness. Or pregnancy. Or anything.
I had the smarts not to ask her if it was ok for me to paint while pregnant, or the response may have been different. As it was, she just smiled and said, “You’re sure that’s what you want?” and went off and mixed me the paint.
Ahh. I felt better already.
So, feeling particularly productive yesterday, I decided to take up the task of painting the place, giving my 15 month old firm instructions to play nicely, while not getting into the paint, or anything else that wasn’t her toys.
I had promised my hubby that I would not be ascending any shaky ladders, so the game plan was to cut in where I could reach, and then roll as much as I could – and surprise him with a half painted house and a wet paintbrush beside his dinner plate.
However, in my fervour, I didn’t realize I was missing a key ingredient to my painting plan – a roller.
Thankfully, my mother-in-law lives right around the corner and is fully stocked with painting supplies of all sorts. So, not only did she have a roller I could borrow, she came over armed with painting supplies, ladders, AND her sister! Together, we painted the entire place in 2 hours! And they not only helped, they even told me how great it looked (in between asking me to point out where I had already painted).
I may not have the most honest bunch of helpers, but they sure do paint a good straight line, so I won’t complain about a few white lies :)
Brandon liked it too, maybe especially because that wet roller never made its way into his hand…definitely not only because he would say he liked it just to make me happy…right?
Long story short, my room is now juuust the right colour, I am thrilled to bits, and while I am quite sure there is professional help in my future, for now I’m off to purchase all those aqua accessories I’ve been eyeing so I can take some pics of the new look to show you all :).
