Our passports are finally renewed and some wonderful friends from Ottawa were going on a West Coast Wander, so what better excuse to take the kids out of school for a couple days and head to beautiful Seattle?!
We went with the zoo in mind, but decided to add the Museum of Flight and I’m so glad we did – the kids actually liked it better than the zoo, despite my scepticism about the potential boredom of a museum full of planes.
If you’re at all interested in planes, the American space program, or World Wars I and II, I highly recommend this museum.
Cutest little check-in agent I ever did see, about 10 minutes before he crashed off the driver’s seat of the fake plane and split his chin open…thankfully it was pretty much time to go anyway :P
Carl wants to go back solo now to have time to read every sign, but the kids were happy to just look at everything and climb in as many airplanes as possible.
When they could convince Carl to give them a turn, that is ;)
Not only is Carl not really jet-fighter-pilot sized, he was also too tall for the adorable old house I rented. They didn’t think to mention that half the house had approximately 6-foot ceilings, so he just about knocked himself out getting up from the couch multiple times. Thankfully there was a hot tub to help work out the kinks :)
The zoo was classic zoo-iness. Lots of walking, lots of animals, various amusing and slightly creepy monkey species. The otters and brown bears were both visible in this zone, which was a big hit!
There’s also an old-fashioned carousel that has been converted to run on solar power and is a definite must.
We also spent time at a couple parks, and Carl found me an oceanside park so I could get my ocean fix in. Every holiday should include the ocean, if you ask me.
All to say it was well worth a few missed days of work and school :)

Our time with you was short but sweet! Thanks for making the trek down so that we could hang. We had so much fun getting to know your kids :)
