Vinyl cutters, and family members who use them on your behalf, are the bees’ knees.
That, and $5 pillow covers from Ikea that I don’t feel bad about experimenting with. With the ability to cut out a stencil in any shape that strikes my whims, the possibilities are endless!
Since we moved in, I’ve wanted our kitchen to sport a navy, coral and white theme, but I was having a hard time bringing it all together. I painted all the kitchen chairs white, with two navy blue end chairs, and that was a start. I painted our stools at the island a vibrant coral, and that helped. But it was still hard to see how it all connected, aside from in my mind :)
Then I found a throw blanket at Ikea that happened to match my stools perfectly, and then I stencilled my white pillows with simple navy blue sea critters that make me smile, and the stars aligned.
Now, on top of the aforementioned painted chairs and stools, this little vignette sports all the colours, making it all make sense! (The hydrangeas are the wrong colour, yes, but were too gorgeous to pass up on stealing from my sister’s garden :)).
The mantel and my current seahorse infatuation make sense now too, as does the fact that I made my family dress in shades of blue for pictures so my photo gallery could fit in. (#crazy)
And since it took me till almost fall to figure all this out, I guess I have till January to get the fall/winter decor on point. A challenge cheerfully accepted, since I don’t think I’ll get tired of this handsome tentacly fellow anytime soon :)
