Well, just like that a month is over and our inaugural boarders are off on an epic trip across the country while we live vicariously through their Facebook feed.
The kids loved them, and I think we were all a little sad to see them go. After only 4 short weeks, it’s amazing how used you get to having people around. It’s especially amazing considering how nervous I was about the idea of boarders, especially ones who found us through Craigslist and who we only really knew through their seemingly-legitimate Facebook personas. While it certainly took getting used to (we definitely ran out of groceries about three days sooner than I expected the first week), it actually took almost no time to get used to having other people wandering in and out the front door, eating breakfast in pajamas, and joining us nightly for dinner.
It certainly helped that they were truly beautiful people, a brother and sister who were kind, open, friendly, and always willing to pick up a complaining baby or entertain the older ones while I was making dinner or trying to get all the kids bathed on nights Carl wasn’t home. The fabulous German accents certainly didn’t hurt matters either, even if the kids sometimes needed an unaccented translation before they knew what they were being asked to respond to :)
It was a fun experience, and the kids now know how to play piggy-in-the-middle and how to cast a fly fishing rod. So now we’re looking forward to getting to know someone new next month – until then, time to paint the basement!
