First of all, thank you so much to Jennifer over at Peanut Butter and Peppers for nominating me for the Versatile Blogger award! I’ve been putting off mentioning it for aaages because it comes with the stipulation of passing it on to 15 other deserving bloggers, but I’ve decided I just can’t narrow it down since I have so many favorites it’s not even funny how much time I spend on the computer, so I just want to say thank you, thank you, thank you to Jennifer! Everyone should check out her blog for fresh, healthy, figure-friendly recipes – she is a pancake rockstar and always makes my mouth water!

I enlisted Carl to whack it apart, which frightened the children, but it was all worth it. (Sorry about the mess. . .I always hesitate to post pictures of my chaotic kitchen, but meh, such is my life!)
Is there anyone out there who loves Crunchie bars as much as I do? (Besides my husband, that is – it’s a fight to the finish at Halloween for the few valuable Crunchie bars hidden amongst all the other loot!) When I saw the idea on Step by Step Gourmet I immediately pinned it with the words “my insides are all squiggly with excitement and hope”! I went out and bought a candy thermometer and set out to conquer my fears of death by scalding syrups.
Those fears were conquered with wild success, if I do say so myself, and I’d love for you to pop over and say “hi” to Kate, my gracious host, and rave about my amazing candy making skills and general loveliness :)

WHAT!! Homemade!
I LOVED crunchie bars when I was a kid. I didn’t know what they were called, so I called them “heaven in your mouth chocolate bar”. Quite the mouthful, but it was so fitting
This looks amazing! Sponge candy is a big thing here in Buffalo! We always have it during the holidays but we get it from a local chocolate shop. It would be so fun to make it! Looking forward to checking out this recipe! :)
Apparently, I am really missing out on something here. I’ve never even heard of a Crunchie bar. This looks very interesting though. When you first said sponge, I assumed, soft and squishy, but now I’m guessing airy and crunchy?
I didn’t know when I posted this that there are no Crunchie bars in the states – you’re definitely missing out! Yes, it’s super hard/crunchy and just melts on your tongue like air…so good :)
My gosh, I’m headed over to Food Babbles to check out this recipe! This kinda reminds me of Violet Crumble bars (I think they’re from Australia)….I haven’t seen them anywhere in years but they look similar to what you have made. Looks great!!
Sponge toffee was always the treat your Aunt Pat bought her herself whenever we went to the local arena for something. They sold it in blocks (no chocolate) and she would happily munch away. Personally it makes me gag, so if I ever find a Crunchie bar looking for a home, you and Carl may have it. :) Looks like it came out really well though. Makes me almost wish I liked it. :)
I’m back! I have to tell you you inspired me with the sponge candy today! I showed my Husband your post and the candy! He begged me to make it and sure enough it’s cooling right now! Crossing my fingers it turns out! Thank you again!!
NICE! At least it doesn’t sound like its oozing all over the counter like my first attempt, so I’m sure it’ll be good!

Ahhh, you are sweet!!! Funny you mentioned me today out of all days, he he and you posted this recipe! Did you know sponge candy originated from Buffalo NY? Guess where I am from? Buffalo! I LOVE Sponge Candy! It is my favorite!!! I live in Californa I can’t get delicious sponge candy out here. It makes me sad! I just think it is so funny you posted this recipe. You definitely should…I think mine cost all of about $8, so it’s a worthwhile investment even if you don’t use it often :)
